Extended Forecast (1/24/20 – 1/27/20)

Colder weather is not over yet! It could return very soon!

This will be a short blog because a lot of what happens within my forecast period is mainly colder weather. After looking at the GEFS ensemble, it seems that a cold sector (colder air aloft) will enter over the next couple of days.

The GFS also shows a slightly similar output. This will cause surface temperatures to drop into the upper 20s which we will see later.

Next, 2 Low systems (one north, one south) will be the reason we could see cloudy days. As both of these systems move, any rain will be near the Great Lakes or by the Gulf Coast. Moisture from the south will extend across the midwest to feed the Low system that is north. From looking at the GFS, no rain will be associated as it will be further northeast over Wisconsin. However, that will change as we get closer.

Friday, Jan. 24 looks to have high temps around the 40s and low temps in the upper 30s. Saturday, Jan. 25 looks to have high temps around the upper 30s and low temps in the lower 30s. Sunday, Jan. 26 may have high temps in the lower to mid-20s and low temps in the upper teens. Monday, Jan. 27 could have high temps in the mid to upper 20s and low temps in the upper 20s.

In conclusion, colder air makes a return. Sky condition seems to be cloudy across all areas for the entire forecast period, but with no rain due to colder air cutting it off. All of this will likely change, just keep that in mind. In simple terms, be ready for colder weather next weekend.
