Summer is about to let us know that it is in the house! An impressive prolonged heat wave is taking aim at the region and will begin to start building this holiday weekend. Temperatures appear to be headed well above normal as a very impressive heat ridge builds out in the Central Plains. Persistent heat will encompass our region, here in the lower Ohio valley. The dog days of summer look to stick around for at least a couple weeks. We will be concerned about high heat indices potentially well over 100, making it difficult to work outdoors for extended periods.

GFS 16 Day Temperature trends. GFS is not looking at a long period of high heat and humidity. Keep in mind that the GFS has a cool bias. But we can only pray and hope it's right.
