Good evening! Hope everyone has been enjoying this beautiful spring-like weather this holiday season. Seems strange to say spring-like for Christmas! But, Mother Nature does what she wants and when she wants to do it! It was beautiful, so I'm not complaining!
A few sprinkles at best may pass thru parts of the region this evening, as we have a rather weak cold front moving thru. Otherwise, just cloudy skies. On Friday, we'll see high temperatures fall back a bit, to the middle and upper 50's across southern Illinois, southern Indiana and northwest Kentucky, under mainly cloudy skies. Lower 60's for Western, northern and south-central Kentucky.
Clouds persist into Friday night. Overnight low temperatures in the middle to upper 40's across the coverage area.
A potent storm system moves into the region by Saturday evening, bringing with it a chance for showers and thunderstorms. At the time of this writing, not currently expecting anything severe. Heavy rainfall appears to be the overall concern, with the potential for some localized flooding. Not ruling out the chance for an isolated strong storm.
Rainfall amounts will generally run from around an inch in the northwest sections of the coverage area in southern Illinois, an inch to an inch and a half across southern Indiana, western, north and south-central Kentucky.
CAPE (Instability) with this system will be rather weak. This time of year, all it takes is CAPE of 100-500 j/kg to produce something severe, with a system this dynamic. An isolated severe storm is NOT entirely out of the question. If a storm were to briefly turn severe, gusty winds would be the main threat.
Rainfall amounts will generally be right around an inch in southern Illinois. An inch to an inch and a half across southern Indiana, western, northern and south-central Kentucky.
Wind will be another factor with this system, especially as we head into Saturday evening and Saturday night. We could see some gust 35-40 mph at times, according to the NAM-WRF model, as the system approaches our region.
As this system begins to lift out, showers will be likely on Sunday and ending by Sunday evening.
Colder temperatures behind the front on Monday, with highs reaching the lower to middle 40's across the coverage area.
