Good Evening! A big rainmaker is moving into the region for tonight and especially Saturday. Current radar is showing some showers over Western , northern and south-central Kentucky. We expect this rain to slowly advance north, into southern Illinois and southwest Indiana. As we progress thru the overnight hours, showers will begin to increase in intensity and become heavy at times during the pre-dawn/early morning hours. As the morning progresses, rain will continue thru the morning and into the afternoon. We can also expect to see some thunderstorms, which will only enhance any heavy rainfall. Not expecting any severe storms.
Heavy rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches can be expected, with the heavier totals of 2-3 inches over southern Illinois, southwest Indiana and western Kentucky. Locally higher amounts are possible, with flooding of low lying and poor drainage areas. 1-2 inches expected further east in the Louisville, Kentucky area.
It will be very windy, with winds out of the southeast and gusting 40 to 50 mph. some isolated higher gust are possible especially with heavier thunderstorms. This particular model
(NAM-WRF) is suggesting possible gust to 60 mph in the Evansville Metro area.
The coldest air of the season so far is still poised to move into the region, just in time for Halloween. Trick or Treaters could see highs falling to around 40 by mid to late afternoon.
The growing season comes to an end Thursday night/Friday morning, with a killing freeze. Overnight lows in the upper 20's.
Many keep asking about the chances for snow on Halloween. At this point, the potential is there. Right now the GFS is showing a bigger system, with snow showers possible over southern Illinois and rain over southwest Indiana and western Kentucky. The system still has a lot of developing to do and we'll watch the trends. Note....This snow talk is not a forecast. Just a look at current model trends.
Hope everyone has a safe and good night. Enjoy!
