Good afternoon! Hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful Sunday. I would get out and enjoy it , because it's about to come to a crashing halt! The arctic air we have been advertising for the last two weeks, will invade the region.
Rain will move into southern Illinois around daybreak and move into southwest Indiana and western Kentucky by mid morning. showers will continue to spread east into northern and south central Kentucky as the morning progresses. As we head into the mid afternoon hours, that rain will begin to mix with sleet and snow. Transitioning to all snow by evening.
Snowfall accumulations of a dusting to an inch will be possible. Not ruling out locally higher amounts around two inches in areas near and along the Ohio River. The amount of snow that falls, will depend on fast the colder air moves in and how soon the temperature can get to freezing or colder. A flash freeze remains possible!
Temperatures will fall to around 30 by evening, over the Evansville Metro and Tri-State. Middle 20's by mid evening. Further east in the Louisville Metro and into south central Kentucky, temperatures will fall to around 30 by mid evening .
Low temperatures on Tuesday morning in the middle teens. I think temperatures drop to around 15.
Gusty northwest winds will create wind chill indices of 15 to 20 above Monday evening.
Bitter cold Tuesday morning, with wind chills in the single digits. Some areas may flirt with wind chills near zero.
Numerous records will either be tied or broken on Monday, as a strong arctic high pressure takes control .
Bundle up the next few days, if you will be headed. I would not be at all surprised if Winter Weather Advisories go up for parts of the area for Monday afternoon/early evening. Stay tuned to Metro Weather Watch for updates on our first potential snowfall.
